The Identity of Hellenic Federation of Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations

The Hellenic Federation of Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations is the second-grade coordinative body of the Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations, which take actions in a wide and multi-collective spectrum of social offer and sensitization. It was founded in 1996, responding to the need for coordinated action of Non-Governmental Organizations. The idea that led to making the Federation a reality was that working in greater numbers with a common goal we can promote our demands more efficiently and ensure a better operating level for voluntary organizations. All the actions aim at the alleviation and settlement of humanistic problems which characterize the modern society.

Today, there are tens of institutions, members of the Federation, which take actions in various fields, as:

• Human Rights
• Civil Protection
• Growth - Humanitarian help in abroad
• Social Solidarity (refugees, migrants, poor people)
• Environment
• Culture - Athletics
• Young people - Children
• Health - Welfare
• Individuals with special needs

The active members of the Organizations of the Hellenic Federation of Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations are estimated in 12.000, while we must take into account a great number of volunteers friends who support unselfishly its work.

Our Aims

From the day the Hellenic Federation of Voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations was founded, set the following aims & goals:

The protection of human life and dignity.

The promotion of the ideal of Volunteerism in Greece and abroad.

The moral and material support of disadvantaged people and social groups to be integrate productively and quickly into society.

The promotion of Scientific Research on Volunteerism by gathering relevant bibliography, educational programs etc.

The proposition to its members of ways to improve their capabilities while acting.

The claim for its members' demands.

The proposal of ways in order for the Federation and its members to participate in financed programmes of voluntary action.

Action Plan

In order to meet the previous goals, the Federation has produced a very inspiring and realistic coordinating plan for its actions, in order to ensure greater effectiveness, cooperation, public projection of goals and results and concentration of economic resources.

The scheduled actions contain:

• Accession of new members in its ranks In order to enrich its thesis and widen its dynamics.
• Renewal οf the existing web site (enrichment with new and - subsidized programmes dealing with Non-Governmental Organizations, announcements about supply and demand of voluntary time, activities of its members etc.)
• Publication of the magazine "Voluntary Expression", which aspires to be the place for thesis, actions, opinions - for lacking of law framework.
• Training seminars about a) finding ways for Non-Governmental Organizations to be financed from national, european and international institutions and b) with the most rational and appropriate organization and function of the Non-Governmental Organizations. The seminars are free for the members of the Federation.
• Constant communication with institutions dealing with Voluntarism, state institutions, organizations, Mass Media, so as to create a permanent platform of communication with the Civil Society.
• Enactment at the 5th of December - World-wide Day for Voluntarism - of an Auction, a manifestation aiming at the concentration of sensitized citizens whose personal aid will support the work of the NGOs.
• Award for social offer to steady providers coming from the ranks of NGOs and projection of their participation in our actions.
• Enactment of Bazaar every Easter, with objects that we will select from NGOs and we will dispose them to the rest of our society.
